How to Train a Pitbull Not to Bite – Clicker Training For PitBull Specific Problems

Are you a puppy Pitbull owner desperate to learn how to train a Pitbull not to bite because your dog has already bitten someone – even if the bite hasn’t caused serious injury? Here are effective Pitbull-specific training tips that will train your dog not to bite anyone – ever.

Pitbulls and Dog Aggression

Pitbulls are confident, intelligent and dominant by nature. Dog aggression is common with this breed. However, their aggression is controllable with responsible ownership and proper training. Early training along with practicing dog biting prevention common sense will significantly decrease the chance your Pitbull will bite.

First Show Him Who’s Boss

First, you have to show your Pitbull that you’re the Alpha. When holding your dog, cradle him so that he’s belly up. Belly up in dog land is the equivalent to submission.

When your Pitbull puppy starts to squirm out of the belly up position, firmly press your hand on his belly and say “stop.” When he stops, reward him with praise or a treat.

Practice the belly up exercise randomly as well as when you’re correcting bad behavior. What you’re doing is conditioning your puppy to accept you as the dominant.

Screech When He Bites

When your Pitbull puppy bites you, screech loudly. When puppies play with their littermates, they learn lessons from each other.
When a Pitbull bites one of his littermates, the littermate yelps and immediately ceases play.

When you yelp and stop playing with your puppy, you’re teaching him that it hurts when he bites and that biting is unacceptable.
Never play aggressive games like tug of war or continue to play with your Pitbull puppy once he’s bitten you. If you do, you’ll encourage his aggression.

Use Reward-Based Training Methods

Since Pitbulls do extremely well with non-violent, reward-based training methods, it’s best to use a dog training method such as Clicker Training.
